There’s A New Tool (Box) in Town

Have you ever wanted to have all of your dysphagia resources in one spot?

Have you ever wondered which assessments and forms to use in your treatment to measure outcomes of therapy?

The Dysphagia Toolbox is here.

This toolbox was created and compiled by Dr. Giselle Carnaby and Dr. Michael Crary.  The criteria for these tools to be added to the toolbox?  They must have published reliability and validity.  This is what we should be looking for anyway, isn’t that correct?

What information can you find on the toolbox?

EAT-10
Sydney Swallow Questionnaire
Mann Assessment of Swallowing Ability (MASA)
Mann Assessment of Swallowing Ability-Cancer (MASA-C)
Functional Oral Intake Scale (FOIS)
Functional Oral Intake Scale-Cancer (FOIS-C)-Coming Soon
Visual Analog Scale (VAS)
Swal-Qol
MD Anderson Dysphagia Inventory (MDADI)
MD Andersen Dysphagia Symptom Index (MDASI)
Carnaby- Video Fluoroscopic Examination (C-VFE)

The MBSImP (Modified Barium Swallow Impairment Profile) information is included, but you have to attend the training to use this tool.

With the exception of the MBSImP, all tools are free to use and available on the website.

A big thank you to Dr. Carnaby and Dr. Crary for creating this invaluable tool for all swallowologists!!

Attended your course in Cherry Hill NJ. You were a wealth of new information! I am not able to download the MASA, you said it was for free but I have not been able to find it without paying $109, the cheapest amount for the whole book. Thanks again. NJ Speech Pathologist

  2. You can download the MASA form athttp://srl.phhp.ufl.edu/dysphagia-toolbox/MASA.pdf This is only the form. The rating scale for dysphagia can be found in your handouts!

Thank you for attending. I love meeting new people when I travel!

  3. Hi!

I have attempted to access the Dysphagia Toolbox via the link above, but am directed to the homepage of the UF Comm Sci program. Am I doing something wrong?

    Thank you!
