My Journey to Dysphagia Ramblings

About me

My name is Tiffani Wallace.  I live in Indiana with my 2 children who are currently 20 and 16.  In my off-time from being a Speech Language Pathologist I am running to football,  wrestling, baseball and visiting my daughter in college (which usually means dinner, soda bar and Target).

I am a Dysphagia Specialist.

I remember those beginning years of my career, not having a clue what I was doing with patients with dysphagia.   I thought my job was to sit in the dining room as my patients ate their meals to cue them to use their strategies.   I handed out the same set of exercises to every single patient.   I would then sit and watch them do that list of exercises as another part of their therapy.  I changed diets at bedside.   The entire time, I thought, there had to be more, so I went out and looked for me.

Over the years I have authored apps and even co-authored a book to help share all the new information I was learning.  I started travelling and teaching CE courses, until I just got tired of teaching the same course over and over and over.

Dysphagia2Go from SmartyEars was my first app, followed by Dysphagia Therapy by Tactus and then iScreen Aphasia by SmartyEars.  I authored these apps as something I felt I needed as I worked with patients.   I have been so fortunate to be able to create several webinars available on Speech Pathology.com and Northern Speech Services.

I am the co-author of the book The Adult Dysphagia Pocketguide:  Neuroanatomy to Clinical Practice.  My friend Yvette McCoy approached me one day with this book idea that she had.   Little did she know, I had the same idea for a book.   It was a long process, but we are beyond proud of the book!  The Second Edition is currently in the works and will be out before we know it.

I am a Home Health SLP look forward to new experiences!  Everyday is a new day and I love learning from all the new people I meet.

I am finally diving into the scary world of creating products and absolutely love it.   I’ve always created tools and sheets for myself to use, but making them for others is a different feeling of accomplishment.

I love to teach.  I love to have the opportunity to teach continuing education classes, students and whoever will listen to me ramble on about dysphagia!  I’m almost positive my kids know more about dysphagia than they do some of their school work.

I am so happy that you found me here and look forward to interacting online and hopefully having the opportunity to meet in person.

If you are interested in a free gift that I have created, you can join my email list here.
